Roll up! Retrofit Rover pop-up Roadshow Success

The Retrofit Rover had its first outing in Harrison Park, Shandon on 23rd March, and has since appeared at a number of other public events around the city. It’s been a big success. Our wonderful freelance Event Coordinator, Hazel, got the Rover designed and constructed in just a few weeks and, on the day, sped up the hill from Portobello into the teeth of a windy blast, thanks to the boosted power of one of the e-cargo bikes from Porty Cargo Bike Library.

The Rover carries lightweight, rapid assembly, waterproof, ballasted, eye-catching informative info-graphic boards covering some essential topics in building retrofit and improvement, with space for promotional material, activities for children and even hot drinks and snacks as well. Combined with some friendly EdinBRIC volunteers it’s proven to be a great way to draw in passers by, engage in discussing their interests and concerns and spread the word about the benefits of collaborative community-led projects as well as the need to see BRI as a continuum from repair and proactive maintenance to retrofit and installation of clean heating systems.

In the first three months, the Rover has also appeared or is appearing at Stockbridge Colonies Yard Sale (19th May) and a number of local festivals and events (including the North Edinburgh Festival, Canal Festival, Sea Rising Festival and the Edinburgh Climate Festival, our summer social event, an architects event and even in Musselburgh). And elsewhere besides – keep an eye out!.
